World Thinking Day Celebration

Junior Troop 81157 presents:

A World Thinking Day Celebration
 Friday, February 17th

6:00 PM – 7:30 PM

St John’s Church Basement

Established in 1926, World Thinking Day, observed on February 22 of each year, celebrates Girl Scouting’s global sisterhood.  This is a day when all Girl Scouts think of their sister Girl Scouts and Girl Guides all over the world and remember that they are part of an international movement.

Come join our celebration!!
There will be many stations to visit with goodies and crafts to enjoy.

Each station will represent different countries (their foods, traditions, songs, etc.) and this year’s theme.  The theme for World Thinking Day 2012 is girls worldwide say "we can save our planet."  (This theme is based on United Nation's Millennium Development Goal 7 focused on environmental sustainability.)

If you have any questions, please feel free to email Kathy MacDonald.

Family Candy Bar Bingo Night

East Bridgewater Service Unit Presents:

Family Candy Bar Bingo Night

Your entire family and friends are invited to join
the East Bridgewater Girl Scouts
January 28th at St. John Parish Hall
Admission: A regular size candy bar per bingo card

Doors will open at 6:00 and we hope to kick our first game off at 6:15
Different types of Bingo games will continue until the last candy bar is gone

If you would like more than one bingo card to work with, bring more candy bars!
Example: The Smith family brings 5 people to this event that would like to play Bingo. We would bring 5 regular size candy bars. (not mini and not king size)

In between Bingo games we will have Girl Scout Commercials both from the Girl Scout Council and our Service Unit highlighting upcoming events and opportunities.

Summer Camp, Me and My Guy Dance Tickets, Religious Medals for Girl Scouts, East Bridgewater Girl Advisory Board, East Bridgewater Service Unit Camping, Volunteer Recognition Nominations

Registrations will be available for any friends you bring with you that might like to join Girl Scouts.

In an effort to keep this a free event for families, we will have waters and juices on hand for a small donation. You are welcome to bring your own snacks to enjoy.

Please do not bring snacks or desserts with peanuts or peanut butter. If you choose to bring a candy bar with either ingredient, we will ask the winner to enjoy the candy bar at home.

If you have any questions email: nhenn71@hotmail.com, Nancy Smith.

We are very grateful for St. John’s Parish for allowing the Girl Scouts of East Bridgewater to hold meetings and events in the Hall. A suggested donation of a can good for the food panty would be a nice way to thank them for their generosity.

Me and My Guy Dance

Senior Troop 75072 presents:
A Night with Someone Sweet
Me and My Guy Dance
Friday, March 9
Dinner: 5:30
Dancing: 6:30-9:00
Ticket: $9.00 per person
East Bridgewater Commercial Club

Our Me and My Guy Dance is a wonderfully popular annual event. Here are some things the Dad’s or Grandfathers, or Uncles should know to help make the night a huge success.

  • There is no dress code, but most couples get dressed up. Most Guys leave the jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers home for this evening.
  • A lot of Guys add a special touch to the night by giving their dates a corsage. This is optional and only included so that upon arrival a Guy doesn’t hear “Why don’t I have flowers?”
  • Doors will open at 5:20
  • Dinner Buffet will open at 5:30
  • The Dinner Buffet will be replenished with hot food until 6:15
  • The Dinner Buffet will be pasta, meatballs, bread and salad
  • We will have water, juice boxes, and coffee
  • Dessert will be served after dinner is done

Given the overwhelming response to this wonderful event we find it necessary to put tables on the dance floor. If we did not put tables on the dance floor we would have to cap attendance at 180. We had over 220 attend the dance last year. Last year every seat in the hall was needed.

What does this mean?
At 6:25 we will need to remove the tables on the dance floor to get ready for a fun night of dancing and games. This went very smoothly last year and it took only a few minutes. A few couples were a bit surprised to “loose” their table.

It is our hope that the Guy’s will be up dancing and enjoying our great DJ starting at 6:30. Once the dancing starts couples are asked to share tables and make room for someone that may need to take a quick break.

No Girl Scout Activity should create a financial burden on any family. Help is available for any girl that needs help with the tickets or purchasing a special outfit.

Congratulations Kaeleigh Smith!

Kaeleigh Smith is a Senior Girl Scout in Troop 75072 and she represented Girls Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts in Houston at the National Conference. She chose to apply and be interviewed last winter in hopes of being chosen. News arrived in late last spring that she was one of 8 girls chosen to represent our Council.

On November 9th she and the other girls left for Houston.

A note from Kaeleigh Smith:

I was very honored to be chosen to represent the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts at the National Convention. Going to Texas, I didn’t know what to expect. When I arrived I was surrounded by girls who loved Girl Scouts and where just like me from around the country. I was inspired by all of the speakers but I was especially inspired by the Young Women of Distinction. This select group of girls from around the country was honored for their outstanding Gold Awards. Their projects made a big impact on their communities, the recipients and themselves. You can look their speeches up on You Tube. Their stories light a fire in me to be the best I can be.

I highly recommend that you stay with Girl Scouts and take every opportunity you can either with your troop, town or council events. You never know where your Girl Scout experience will lead you to! Maybe all the way to Texas or beyond.

Huge thanks to Brenda Armand for heading our Parade Committee. For the second year in a row she has organized our Veteran’s Day and Christmas on The Common floats and marching units.

At each parade we had lots of wonderful smiling girls representing us. For the second year in a row, with gratitude to Brenda, our float placed second in the Christmas on the Common Parade.
